What You Will Do 

Sphero is looking for an Accounting Intern who will team up with our Accounting group.  This role will take on tasks critical to the world of accounting and will have the opportunity to expand their understanding of the accounting role within a successful company. We’re looking for someone who is excited to learn about the month end close process and other responsibilities of accounting. This will be an opportunity to learn and receive mentorship from individuals who have been in the profession for 20+ years. 

  • Work in a dynamic Accounting department and help with general administrative tasks and projects.
  • Perform various month end tasks, such as: bank account reconciliations, corporate credit card reconciliation, prepaid expenses schedule reconciliation, deferred virtual revenue schedule reconciliation.
  • Assist with day to day accounting tasks such as new vendor set up and entering vendor bills into the accounting system.
  • Attend weekly accounting team sync meetings and weekly cash runs.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Junior or Senior concentrating in Accounting currently attending University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado State University, University of Northern Colorado, or University of Denver.
  • Excitement about accounting and the various aspects of the accounting profession. 
  • Be a part of a remote environment by being driven, attempting to solve problems and be able to ask questions when stuck, be flexible with changing priorities, prioritize daily tasks effectively and efficiently. 
  • Experience in Excel (able to do some basic formulas and formatting, i.e. SUMIF, ROUND) along with general understanding of accounting best practices and their application. 
  • Ability to commit to September - 2nd week of December (Q4) with potentially extending into January - March and work up to 20 hours per week during the first 2 weeks of each month (during month end close). The last 2 weeks the hours are up to 10 hours per week. 
  • Ability to professionally communicate via email and Slack (our internal communication platform) 
  • Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States.

A Day in the Life of a Sphero Accounting Intern:

  • Daily check in with Sphero’s Talent Manager to ensure you feel fully supported for the day.
  • Open up Slack and post in the Accounting team’s daily standup thread that you’re here and ready to learn!
  • Receive tasks from Sphero’s Controller to go over the expectations for your day.
  • Check Slack regularly for any communications and respond accordingly with appropriate information.
  • Reach out to your teammates when questions arise and be open to feedback.
  • Mark off completed tasks (Month End Checklist) or update team in Slack when tasks are complete (outside Month End).
  • Attend 1:1s during the week with Controller, virtual (Zoom) training with team members, and weekly team syncs.
  • Come prepared each day for learning and mentorship, vocalizing areas of interest plus topics you’re wanting real-world Accounting experience in.

This is a temporary part time position (up to 20 hours per week during the first 2 weeks of each month and the last 2 weeks up to 10 hours per week) beginning in September of 2024 and continuing until the 2nd week of December or possibly through the first 3 months of the year.

Compensation: The compensation for this role is $22.00 per hour.
